Welcome to PublicSpend
A service to help vendors promote and grow their government business
PublicSpend is an exciting new Internet service that uses government contracting data to help small local service businesses win new contracts and grow their local customer base.
We will launch 2 services in early 2009:
- An authoritative online platform for companies that are qualified or certified to work with government to market their businesses
- Actionable sales and competitive intelligence for local vendors seeking to win government contracts

Our Premise
Government does some really good work when it comes to vetting businesses and spending money. It goes to extraordinary lengths to choose the most responsible and competitive vendors to award contracts to. It buys from a diverse set of vendors and works with some of the best small and minority businesses. However, while government strives to be open and transparent and make its data public so that the wider community can benefit from its work, this information is not easily accessible. PublicSpend works to accumulate public spending data from thousands of different places, then organizes it and builds tools to help the vendor community market and sell their services. Our platform also provides private and public sector buyers with the information they require to choose the best vendors to meet their needs.
The PublicSpend Blog
Thanks for visiting the PublicSpend Blog which is an important part of our service. Here we will regularly post, expand upon, challenge and push the envelope on some of our key philosophies, including:
- Any company, big or small, should have a strategy to sell to government. We provide help on how to find and win government contracts and navigate the often complex bidding process
- Small local businesses are the backbone of our economy and both the public and private sector should be encouraged to buy from them
- Data is king and companies need to capture and analyze information not only about their businesses but also about their customers and competitors. We offer tips on how to do this and showcase useful tools that might help
- Government has a duty to be transparent about how it spends its money and needs to prioritize providing public access points to its data. We monitor current thinking on this topic and provide our view and opinion on the use of technology in government

About Stuart Lander
Stuart Lander is the founder of PublicSpend. Stuart has spent his career building and growing Internet based technology companies. Most recently he was founder and COO of CTSpace, the largest independent global content collaboration provider focused on the construction industry. As the single biggest buyer of construction services, government at all levels was a key part of CTSpace’s strategy and customer base. After successfully selling CTSpace to Sword Group, Stuart wanted to use his experience of working with government to set-up PublicSpend. Understanding the tremendous value of having government as a customer and how useful public spending data can be if captured and organized in a certain way he has set out to build an Internet based platform that will help service based businesses grow their government business and promote their credentials in a way that previously was available only to big companies with big budgets.
