How To Find A Federal Bid

by Stuart Lander

There are a number of paid Internet services that provide their subscribers with access to active government bids.  They range in price from $20 a month at the low end to more than $100 a month for the higher end versions.  But if all you are looking for is to be able to browse federal bid opportunities you really don’t need to subscribe to one of those services.

That’s because the U.S. government has its own website called FedBizOpps where “commercial vendors and government buyers are invited to post, search, monitor and retrieve opportunities solicited by the entire federal contracting community”.

It is actually mandated by law that all federal opportunities over $25,000 must be listed on FedBizOpps.

You can search bids by specific agencies or by keyword.  If you find a bid that interests you, you can also sign up to receive e-mail notification to make sure you are alerted when a full solicitation is released or when an amendment is issued for that particular contract.  You can also sign up to be notified of all solicitation issued by a particular agency.

Remember that FedBizOpps is only relevant to contracts that are $25,000 or greater but it’s a tremendous resource if you want to dip your toe in the water before purchasing a paid services.

Are You A Certified Government Vendor?

PublicSpend is a community of the most credible local businesses in the United States. If you work for government or have a current government certification - federal, state or local - then you should be registered as a PublicSpend Vendor. Buyers are increasingly using PublicSpend as their first port of call to find qualified vendors. Make sure you can be found!

FedBizOps is a great resource! We use it all the time for ourselves and for our clients. Are you sure you don’t live in DC? :-)
